What to expect during a gynaecology consultation?
Gynaecology examination - except checkups - always starts with thorough evaluation of patient's medical history and complaints. Information on periods is collected: length, intensity of the cycle, date of last period - ; details related to the number and course of pregnancies, birth control methods applied, previous diseases, treatments and surgeries, previous blood transfusions, as well as diseases in the family (as possible predisposing factors) are asked about.
Once the complaints, gynaecology data and medical history have been asked about and collected, physical examination is performed. After visual check, bimanual analysis is done. Instrumental examinations, such as colposcopy, are carried out but cytological and additional rectovaginal check, as well as bacterial and fungus culture of vaginal secretion may also be performed.
